Friendship Hospital for Animals, DC

Description of Elective Experience: 

3rd and 4th year veterinary students will shadow veterinarians rotating through general practice, ER and various specialty services at Friendship Hospital for Animals. 

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

Friendship Hospital for Animals has over 50 veterinarians on staff including specialists boarded in small animal surgery, neurology, clinical pathology, internal medicine, anesthesiology, radiology, dermatology and critical care. We have a CT scanner and MRI, as well as radiology, ICU, isolation, 2 digital radiology units and an in house lab. The hospital is staffed 24 hours, 365 days a year. Rehabilitation and pain management and dentistry are also offered.

The hospital also has a full time primary care service.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

Students will be expected to shadow clinicians during the day M-Fri. They will not provide actual support or perform treatments nor any procedures.
