Genesee Valley Equine Clinic, NY (LLC)

Description of Elective Experience: 

An opportunity to gain exposure to a wide range of cases in a private equine practice; provides opportunities for hands-on experience as well as case discussions with DVMs & LVTs.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 
  • 6 DVM practice
  • 2 LVT, Office Manager, Barn Manager
  • 2 digital x-ray units
  • 3 digital ultrasound units
  • extensive vet text library
  • archived journal articles library
  • monthly vet meetings with journal club
Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 
  • assist LVTs with packing trucks, performing labwork & patient care
  • assist DVMs with routine & emergency appointments - 8 - 12 hours/day on farm calls , evening and weekend emergencies
  • restrain horses/foals
  • assist with diagnostics & treatments
  • participate in case discussions
Student Housing (include costs, amenities, pet friendly, contact info if different from elective contact info): 

A futon, full bath, laundry facilities and basic kitchen (microwave, toaster oven, refrigerator/freezer) is available in the clinic lounge area. Privacy in this area is limited. Offered free of charge.  No facilities for accommodating pets.
