Description of Elective Experience: 

Opportunity to observe and participate in all aspects of general practice, including well and sick office visits, formulating diagnostic and treatment plans, medication selection, follow-up plans, case discussions, anesthesia planning, surgery, dental procedures, and euthanasia.  Emphasis on fear free handling and communication and connection with clients in order to best serve the patient's interests.  Mentoring will be provided for all aspects of participation.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

Two full-time DVMs with full support staff, in-house and reference lab, digital radiography, surgical and dental suite, on-site consults with board-certified internal medicine specialist, practicing referral level care.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

Expect full-time schedule and participation in daily appointments and surgical schedule - alternating between DVM schedules to provide broad exposure to variety of cases.  Combination of shadowing and active participation as appropriate.
