Description of Elective Experience: 

Student extern will assist with daily farm calls and duties including reproductive examinations and pregnancy diagnosis using ultrasound, sick animal diagnosis and treatment, as well as on-farm surgical procedures.  The student will also be expected to assist in laboratory procedures including fecal testing and milk culturing.  

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

The student extern will be working with a veterinarian, as well as support staff in the daily activities associated with a primarily food animal ambulatory private practice.  The student will have access to ultrasound, in house blood machines, and culturing equipment.  

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

The student will be expected to ride along and assist on farm calls during the weekdays until the routine day is completed.  Most days are minimally 10 hours long and the student will be expected to participate in the duties alongside the practicing veterinarian.

Student Housing (include costs, amenities, pet friendly, contact info if different from elective contact info): 

The student will be expected to provide their own housing and transportation to and from the clinic.  All meals will be included during their stay.
