Participate in a busy, 4 doctor small animal practice that also sees exotics. Client communication and education is as important to us as our medical services. The student will take part in our appointments with our clients/patients, evaluate and work up cases, formulate treatment plans, monitor hospitalized patients, participate in surgeries and dental procedures, and also learn about the practice management aspect of being a hospital owner.
We are a progressive, 4 doctor hospital with the most updated equipment available. We have both therapeutic and surgical lasers. We have a board-certified radiologist who comes to our practice to do our ultrasounds for us. In addition, there is a specialty hospital one block from us that will also do our ultrasounds. We have both a complete in-house laboratory, and also utilize an outside lab. We have between 10-15 support staff also.
We are open from 7:30-5:30 Monday through Friday, and 8:00-12:00 on Saturdays. I would expect the student to be at the hospital 4 1/2 days during the week, and on Saturday mornings (40-45 hour week). I would expect it to be a combination of both shadowing, and actual support - working up cases, performing surgery and dental procedures with supervision.
