Description of Elective Experience: 

This elective will have extensive exposure to Bovine embryo transfer including donor management, superovulation protocols, embryo recovery, handling, freezing and transfer. Additional  time will involve all aspects of an intense calving period and associated dystocias, etc.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

Our clinic is a mixed practice with 15 employees. The internship will primarily involve the embryo transfer aspect of the practice. Equipment that will be used during the internship, and involve training ,will include the use of ultrasound machines, embryo freezers, ET microscopes, and all associated lab equipment.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

This intern will spend all waking hours with me personally, both at the clinic helping with administering superovulation drugs, artificial insemination, embryo recovery, administration of epidural anesthesia, microscopic searching for embryos, handling of embryos, livestock handling, and all others duties of the staff. After normal clinic hours we will be calving recipient cows and dealing with any associated issues in a dry lot facility.

The intern will be staying in my home and a vehicle and meals provided.
