Description of Elective Experience: 

Herkimer Veterinary Associates is a mixed animal practice. We are proud to do large animal work with our dairy community focused on production animals. We also do work with many horse clients treating both stable and backyard horses. We are a full service general practice working with companion animals. We are also proud to be the veterinary team providing oversight, and professional services to two local animal shelters.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

Our veterinary staff includes 2 owners, graduating from veterinary school in 1985 and 2005.  We also employee three associate veterinarians.  The five of us are committed to providing quality veterinary care to our community.  We work well as a team, each bringing a different perspective and knowledge base.  Consultation with coworkers is a normal part of our practice philosophy.  Our staff is one of our greatest assets; they are competent, dedicated and supportive.  There are  6 licensed veterinary technicians, customer service individuals and veterinary assistants on staff as well as a practice manager with excellent organizational and people skills.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

We would offer an opportunity work along our veterinary team daily.  You will recieve exposure and opportunites to our entire practice and all levels of veterinary care.
