Hillside Small Animal Hospital is a busy canine and feline practice in a growing suburban area outside Cincinnati, Oh. We focus on client communication and family-oriented veterinary care. In addition to lifetime wellness care for pets, we offer comprehensive dental and surgical services, internal medicine, and dermatology, among other disciplines, through a wide array of diagnostic and therapeutic services. We also receive referrals from other veterinarians in the area for our orthopedic services including cranial cruciate rupture repair, luxating patella treatment, and fracture repair.
Our staff consists of two veterinarians, one full-time and one part-time. We have a full-time practice manager, assistant manager, and a staff of four highly trained CSR's. Our three licensed RVT's are assisted by five veterinary assistants. Diagnostic imaging includes digital radiology complemented by available teleradiology consultation services and utilization of a mobile ultrasonography service. We also use medical photography for some case documentation. Our dedicated dental suite is comprised of a high-speed dental unit and digital dental radiology. Our four exam rooms, including a comfort room for euthanasia, are equipped with networked computers and wall-mounted monitors for discussing x-rays and reviewing medical imagery with pet owners. The surgical suite is suitable for advanced orthopedic procedures, utilizing pinning, external fixators, and dynamic compression plating for fracture repair, routine lateral suture for ruptured cranial cruciate ligament repair, as well as a full range of common veterinary soft tissue surgery.
Students would be expected to shadow veterinarians during office visits and history-taking, perform physical exams, formulate tentative diagnoses, and contribute to treatment plans during clinical appointments. They will have the opportunity to perform dental exams and prophylaxis, and participate in dental imaging and extraction. They will be expected to demonstrate aseptic surgical technique and scrub in on surgical procedures with the supervising veterinarian. The number of hours would be agreed upon by each student but would be no less than 20 hours per week, and no more than 40 hours per week. Our hours of operation are Mon. - Fri. 8-6 and Sat. 8-2..
