Description of Elective Experience: 

- Student would join a full time farrier practice for 2 weeks. 
-student would be involved in cases in ways ranging from formulating case Rx with the farrier to actually helping w the farriery. (Ie- pulling shoes, clinching, etc) 

Student would likely be involved in dissection of distal limb, trimming, shoe fitting, and nailing on cadaver foot, and shop time in the forge. 
 

Student would likely encounter time with veterinarians in the field as the farrier and vet team work together on cases. 

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

Working with a certified journeyman farrier (CJF), certified through the AFA. 

Working with an advanced skilled farrier (ASF), certified through the Farrier International Training System. 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

5-6 days a week of a full time mobile farrier practice

typical 8-10 hour days 

student will have homework w drawing and/or shop time.
