We are a full service high volume General Practice with surgical/dental and emergency medicine. We are open 7 days a week and always have a full caseload and provide 24 hour hospitalization. This setting will provide an in depth and thorough experience into General Practice and will provide the opportunity to gain surgical and dental experience and to work side by side with up to 6 different veterinarians. The student will also be able to see numerous cases per day and have the ability to develop a diagnostic and treatment plan, as well as maintain client communication. They will learn how to efficently multi-task and get a prime experience into their career path.
Digital radiographs with access to have radiologist review when needed
Full surgical suite with monitoring equipment (SpO2, EKG, Blood pressure, HR, RR, Temperature), isoflurane and electrocautery
State of the art Ultrasound machine in house, with guidance from boarded radiologist (Oncura)
Dental equipment: scaler, polisher, high speed drill etc- we perform extractions, gingival flaps, nerve blocks, fluroide treatment and general cleaning etc
Access to VIN, Plumbs online/cell phone, access to clinical vet advisor, full library in house
in house CBC and Chemistry machines, sampling lines, JP drains etc- Idexx and Antech for outside labs
Visiting specialist for in house echocardiograms
Three exam rooms, an ICU, and inpatient ward, surgery suite, dental area, general treatment area, visiting/euthanasia room,
Large in house pharmacy with a wide variety of drugs/medications
In general the daily staffing includes 3 Veterinarians, 4 technicians, 4-5 assistants, 3 receptionists, 1 office manager, 1 assistant manager
There are 6 veterinarians currently staffed - two have over 30 years of experience, one has 10 years, another is intership trained and has 8 years experience, our other doctor has 7 years, and our newest grad has ~ 4 months.
Student will be responsible for participating in morning and evening patient rounding
Will be allowed to assist or perform (when deemed appropriate under strict veterinary supervision) in a variety of surgeries from elective (spay, neuter cherry eye, entropian repair, mass removal etc), to emergency (splenectomy, cystotomy, foreign body etc), lateral ear resection, TECA, Perineal urethrostomy, MPL and CrCL repair etc.
Will be expected to develop anesthesia protocols for their surgical patients, and appropriate discharge instructions/ treatments
Will perform physical exams and shadow doctors during appointments and participate in case discussions.
Will help develop diagnostic and then treatment plan under supervision of Veterinarian
Will be responsible for completing medical records, communicating with clients, completing call backs, and hospital case management.
Will be expected to assist in any emergency codes, CPR etc
Will be allowed to take primary case responsibility under supervision when deemed appropriate
