Students will spend their 2-3 week-long externship working with our veterinarians and staff as they go about working with our clients and their calves. Externs will also take part in consultations, research trial design and/or assistance, research animal caretaking, research animal processing, emergency calls, vaccination protocol creation, diagnostics, and necropsy. The extern will also be expected to develop a presentation on a special case or topic from their time on the Calfternship that they will then present to the group at their last Thursday here during the morning vet meeting.

They will be scheduled to rotate time amongst our five veterinarians as well as time at our research facilities with our research team. Externs will get to experience calf feedings at Conclusions if calves are there at least a couple of times. Ideally, we would like to split up their time here evenly. Our business is Monday through Friday, but some days can be up to 12 hours because of travel time because our practice area consists of Indiana and the four surrounding states.

Student housing is free and will be at a house the business rents that is a quarter of a mile from our office. It has a full kitchen, full bathroom, and a bed. Students are responsible for providing their own food and cleaning up after themselves. A house cleaner is contracted by CalfCare to clean after the student leaves.
