Student will be working with a full time ER veterinarian that also provides relief services and also works with a feline non-profit organization. When not working at the ER(small animal only) the student will have the ability to work in multiple private practice settings(small animal day practice, avian and exotic practice, and house calls(routine care and end-of-life care). In the emergency setting the clinic is located in a multi-specialty clinic and the emergency practice refers to and works with the following practices; internal medicine, oncology, surgery, neurology, and physical therapy.
Available modalities to gain direct experience with include full-in house laboratory, digital radiographs, ultrasound, cautery, and k-laser. Indirect experience with CT, MRI, underwater treadmill and other physical therapy instruments is available if appropriately scheduled upon student request. Staffing includes the following support staff; reception, veterinary assistants, and both unlicensed and licensed veterinary technicians.
Scheduling will take place based on student requests and availability(will discuss via email prior to externship about anticipated goals and areas of interest). Hands-on experience is expected and encouraged. Anticipated hours per week ~ 40. Constant supervision will be provided.
