Students are expected to see cases and be responsible for in-patient care as well as out-patient management in coordination with the senior clinician on the case.
Kansas State has a full-service library. Medical records are fully electronic. We have board-certified specialists in surgery, internal medicine, oncology, dermatology, radiology, anesthesiology, ophthalmology, and zoo/exotics. We have registered nurses and veterinary assistants on every service. Equipment includes an MRI (3T), CT scanner, and a fully equipped ICU.
Depending on how many internal medicine patients the student has in-hospital, the day may start at 6:30 or 7:00 AM if there are patients in ICU,but otherwise the day typically starts at 7:30 - 8:00 AM. Internal Medicine case rounds begin at 8:30 AM. Receiving begins at 9:30 AM. Students might be finished by 5:00 PM or they may be here until 7 or 8:00 PM. If students have an in-patient on the weekend, they are expected to evaluate their patients in the morning and in the late afternoon/evening, but are not expected to spend the entire day here.
