Laytonsville Veterinary Practice, MD

Description of Elective Experience:

Small animal GP/UC Externship Opportunity with Housing Provided

LVP is a 4 doctor practice (looking for a 5th!) Small Animal General Practice clinic in Maryland in the rural-suburbs of Washington, DC (think lots of horses and breweries, with easy metro access to the capital).

Our practice has been family owned and operated since 1988, and offers a mix of general practice, urgent care, surgery, dentistry, and some emergency / critical care – without the overnight shift. We have contracts with the local police K-9 unit, as well as several rescues. Our veterinarians are an equal mix of recent graduates and veteran practitioners, and we all work together in a collaborative environment.

Our staff is fun and friendly with a variety of experience levels. We have a 20-person technician team, who will work with you so that you can spend time engaging with cases alongside DVM mentors, rather than performing tech duties.

As part of your externship, you will have opportunities for:

- Experience in a wide variety of cases, ranging from routine wellness, to internal medicine, urgent care and emergency, dermatology, surgery, dentistry and more

- Spay / neuter on rescue animals

- Scrubbing in to assist during soft tissue surgeries

- Dental extractions and interpreting dental radiographs

- Preventative medicine

- Urgent and Emergency Care

- Daily use of modern digital imaging equipment, including ultrasound, and digital rads

- Working alongside doctors to research cases and create treatment plans

- Performing diagnostic checks in our fully outfitted Idexx lab

Career Opportunities:

The potential for an Associate Veterinarian position upon graduation is certainly an opportunity for the right candidate. This position offers schedule flexibility, competitive salary plus production, a comprehensive benefits package, mentorship and support.

Housing details:

Housing for the duration of externship may be provided at the practice owner’s house at no cost, in a private apartment with a separate entrance and parking pad. The basement apartment features plenty of light, a full kitchen and fully furnished bedroom, bathroom, spacious living room, laundry room, and study nook. Outside views overlook a wooded backyard and the practice owner’s horse field. Must love dogs!
