Lexington Hospital for Cats, KY

Description of Elective Experience:

Lexington Hospital for Cats is a feline exclusive, gold standard Cat Friendly Practice. We follow guidelines adapted from those developed by AAFP, AVMA, AAHA, and WVC.  Our focus is internal medicine, dermatology, dentistry, nutrition, and behavior. You will be exposed to wellness care including senior cat protocols, curbside outpatient visits, management of dental and ear disease, balancing complicated cases, soft tissue surgery, orthopedic surgery, as caseload allows, and direct patient care. We see complicated cases with many comorbidities.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:

Since 1987, Lexington Hospital for Cats has served the cats of the Bluegrass region. Dr. Mills' institutional knowlege and years of experience are offered as a resource for students. We have an updated DR radiology suite including dental x-ray system, Doppler blood pressure monitors and MedRx ear cameras in each exam room, sterile surgery suite, dental, grooming, and ear irrigation suite, isolation ward, ICU with oxygen cage and recovery cages with heated floors, a complete Idexx in house laboratory, feline pharmacy, and well-educated employees. We use a cloud-based practice management system and digital record keeping. We are able to communicate with our clients by phone, email, and text. We keep detailed records and send a copy of the log to clients once written so that they can read the details of the visit and release instructions and also have something tangibile after a curbside visit.
