Mad River Veterinary Hospital is a general practice located in Springfield, Ohio, 1 hour west of Columbus. We offer preventive and sick patient care, diagnostics, surgery, dental services, and physical rehabilitation. Our 13,000 sq foot facility is large, modern, and designed to provide all the equipment and space needed for whole-patient care.
Our practice currently has 5 veterinarians, 10 RVT's, 2 assistants, receptionists, and 2 rehabilitation therapists. The practice is equipped with digital radiology, dental suite with radiology, full surgery suite, in-house laboratory, and reference materials. The physical rehabilitation facility has underwater treadmill, pool, and exercise gym.
Externship will be 8:00-5:00 Monday-Friday for 2 weeks with no weekends. Students participating in an externship will have the opportunity to participate in patient care, surgery, and dental procedures under the direct supervision of a veterinarian. We love to teach and mentor students and want you to use this time to both observe veterinarians and practice formulating your own treatment plans. You will be encouraged to perform surgery and other procedures as practice for the real world!
A house is available within 1/4 mile of the practice where students can stay at night. This house doubles as a childcare facility for our employees during the daytime. Students will be expected to provide their own meals but do have access to the kitchen. No pets are allowed.
