Clinical Practice Experience: Externs at Magnolia Animal Hospital will have the opportunity to work alongside our experienced veterinary team, gaining invaluable insights into routine examinations, diagnostics, and treatment procedures across a wide range of small animal cases. Under the guidance of our veterinarians, externs will actively participate in: Wellness exams and preventive care - Diagnostic imaging (X-rays, ultrasound) - Surgical procedures (assisting and observation) - Dental procedures and oral health assessments - Laboratory diagnostics and interpretation - Client communication and education Operational Exposure: In addition to clinical practice, externs will gain insight into the operational aspects of veterinary medicine, including: Clinic management and workflow optimization - Inventory management and ordering - Client relationship management and customer service best practices - Compliance with regulatory standards and protocols Professional Development: We believe in nurturing the next generation of veterinary professionals. Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

As an extern at Magnolia Animal Hospital, students will play an integral role in the clinical environment, contributing to patient care, client interactions, and overall clinic operations. Below are the key responsibilities expected of students during their externship: Hours and Schedule: - Externs are expected to commit to a predetermined schedule, which may include full or part-time hours depending on the availability and duration of the externship. - The clinic's operating hours are from Monday to Friday, spanning from 8:00 am to 8:40 pm, and on Saturdays from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Full-time externs have the flexibility to choose between working 10-hour shifts for 4 days per week or 8-hour shifts for 5 days per week. - Flexibility may be required to accommodate occasional evening or weekend shifts, depending on the clinic's needs and the extern's availability. Clinical Participation: - Externs will actively participate in clinical activities under the supervision and guidance of our veterinary team. This may include assisting with patient examinations, diagnostics, treatments, and surgeries. - Students will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning experiences, including administering medications, performing laboratory tests, and assisting in medical procedures. - Externs are expected to demonstrate professionalism, attention to detail, and a commitment to providing high-quality patient care at all times. Shadowing and Observation: - In addition to hands-on experience, externs will engage in shadowing and observation opportunities to gain insights into various aspects of veterinary medicine, including client communication, case management, and clinic workflow. - Externs will shadow experienced veterinarians and staff members during consultations, procedures, and surgeries, actively observing and learning from their expertise. Professional Conduct: - Externs are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times, maintaining confidentiality, respecting the clinic's policies and procedures, and adhering to ethical standards of veterinary practice. - Students will interact with clients in a courteous and respectful manner, providing clear communication and excellent customer service throughout their interactions.
