At McAfee Animal Hospital, we offer pet health care for small animals and exotics. We provide preventative care, medical care, and perform surgery. Surgeries include minor (dental procedures, growth removals, etc) and major procedures (orthopedics, splenectomies.etc). We are AAHA accredited, members of the IVMA, AVMA, and CAVMA.
The extern may be able to have a large degree of hands on experience or may only be able to observe depending on their skill level.

Laser therapy, digital x-ray, Impromed computer system, new Philips ultrasound, in-house Idexx blood analyzer
Hours would be Monday and Friday 8am-7pm, Tuesday and Thursday 8am-5pm, Saturdays 8am-noon. We do not book appointments between 12-2pm and student can stay at clinic or go out for lunch for at least an hour during this time. We are also open 8am til 7pm on Wednesday if student would like any additional hours. Surgeries are booked Monday-Friday mornings 8am-noon.
Student will be with a doctor in the exam rooms until they feel comfortable. From there, the student may be asked to perform exams and vaccinations but will be monitored or overseen by another veterinarian. The student will be present with doctors for sick cases and asked for recommendations and feedback. Practice interpreting blood work, radiographs, etc will be provided. Student will be asked to perform skin scrapes, skin cytologies, ear cytologies, etc as indicated. Student may assist with surgery as our doctors see fit.
