Emergency and critical care elective. Student will spend day shift and swing shift with experienced emergency and critical care doctors seeing incoming patients and managing inpatients. Rounding of cases as well as topics will be done daily/weekly. Case based discussions and hands on for procedures will be done as deemed by overseeing clinician.
24/7 ER and specialty facility. day/swing/overnight doctors overseeing ER. specialty management and case transfers daily. on call surgery. will have student interact with specialty as it relates to ER and follow cases with specialty.
CT, MRI, ultrasound (both point of care unit and radiology unit), numerous RVTs on ER and nursing care team. Access to numerous injectable and oral medications as typically found in a primary ECC setting.
Time period is April 13-26. This particular student will be joining Medvet for the emergency clinician mentorship program (ECMP) in June after graduation so this will be a good opportunity for her to start getting to know the team and procedures etc. She will be working during set shifts hours on day and swing shifts. will not be planning overnights unless student desires overnight shifts. Shifts are typically 12 hours. Will be a mix of weekday and weekend shifts. Will be planning for 8-10 shifts total with time permitted for rounding and didactic teaching. In general for future externships the time and shifts will be similar with focus on ECC and combination of actual support and with shadowing of ER clinicians as they interact with clients and patients.
There is not set student housing at this time but can be discussed on an individual basis if student requires housing
