Description of Elective Experience: 

The student will shadow several board-certified clinical pathologists and interact with pathology residents on diagnostic service duty and in rounds and journal club. Opportunities will also be available for sitting in on graduate and professional courses related to clinical pathology and general pathology.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

The clinical pathology laboratory is part of the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, a full-service and state-of-the-art diagnostic laboratory that is AAVLD-accredited and staffed with highly qualified personnel. The clinical pathology lab has 5 board-certified clinical pathologists, 3 residents, and 10 medical technologists or licensed medical technicians. The high caseload comes from the Veterinary Medical Center and outside clients. Resources include most of those available to our professional students and resdidents. 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

Participation in service, rounds, and journal club as scheduled; hours typically about 8:00 a.m. until the diagnostic work is done in the evening, often about 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday
