Mid-Texas Veterinary Associates, TX

Description of Elective Experience: 

We are a full service large animal hospital in central Texas with a special interest in Bovine (bucking bull) performance medicine. 

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

There is one veterinarian, an LVT and three veterinary assistants. Equipment included is a Next ii DR, Sonosite Edge with 3 probes, an endoscope for upper airways, an in-house VetScan for chemistries and several other pieces of equipment which allows us to offer hospitalization and surgery. 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

All students have a place to stay on property and will be expected to work the same hours as the licensed veterinarian or until all cases are treated and records maintained. We are open from 8-5 MTWTF but may need to work additional hours according to case load and time of year. All students expected to maintain good records and a professional attitude. Students are allowed to perform procedures according to their ability and will have a licensed veterinarian assisting with cases as seen fit. 

Student Housing (include costs, amenities, pet friendly, contact info if different from elective contact info): 

There is a bunk house available at no charge for student externs. There are no places to keep personal pets.
