Description of Elective Experience: 

Primarily equine haul-in and ambulatory mixed animal practice in SE Texas, north of Houston.   The student will be able to witness and participate in all aspects of general practice including acupuncture, anesthesia, animal chiropractics, dentistry, examinations, immunizations, lameness evaluation, and surgery.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

Staffed with two practice owners (DVMs) and three veterinary assistants (one is a CVT).  Equipment includes digital X-Ray, digital ultrasound, wireless endoscope, Class IV therapeutic laser, extracorporal shockwave therapy, stall side PRP, SA anesthesia machine, and motorized dental equipment as well as hand tools.  Facility includes 8 stalls, office, storeroom and paddocks of various sizes.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

Students will be given the opportunity to both observe and participate in various activities at least 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. The level of participation on any given activity will be left to the supervising doctor's discretion in regards to safety of the student and the patient as well as the comfort level of the client.  We will encourage as much hands-on as possible.
