Description of Elective Experience:
Heather Walker will work under the State Public Health Veterinarian at the Minnesota Department of Health, as we wind up our COVID response and re-establish our normal surveillance and outreach activities. She will also participate in veterinary checks of thousands of sheep and goats entering the state fair.
Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:
MDH will provide a laptop and a cube. Heather will be embedded in the Zoonotic Diseases Unit, comprised of 6 epidemiologists and 4 students. She will conribute to daily work activities including rabies surveillance.
Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:
8 hours/day 5 days a week (M-F). Actual support and some shadowing. Because of the pandemic, most meetings will be virtual, which decreases participation uinfortunately.
