Monocacy Equine Veterinary Associates, MD

Description of Elective Experience: 

The student will assist doctors in daily rounds and emergency calls and will rotate between doctors.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

We have a full office including library and WiFi. The clinic barn has 4 stalls and a stock and is heated in winter. We have an additional 3 stalls for day use or mares here for breeding as well as several stalls in a lower barn for foaling mares. Equipment includes 2 Digital x-ray machines, a Gastroscope, 2 ultrasound machines, power dental floating equipment, equipment for frozen and cooled semen breeding and for stallion collection etc.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

Students will assist one doctor each day and may also ride along on night emergency calls if desired. Weekends are optional.

Student Housing (include costs, amenities, pet friendly, contact info if different from elective contact info): 

We have a modest one room cabin with full kitchen and bathroom as well as a student room in the clinic. The student room includes use of shared bathroom and microwave, toaster oven and refrigerator with the rest of the office. There is no cost for using the cabin or room. Please contact us beforehand if considering bringing a pet.
