Our Definition:
Mentoring is an ongoing collaborative relationship that occurs for the purpose of the mentee’s growth, learning, and career development. There should be an emphasis on communication, hospital culture, short- and long-term career goals, establishing best practices, and improving patient care. Effective mentors act as role models and sounding boards for their mentees and provide guidance to help them reach their goals.
Mutual Responsibilities:
• Bring enthusiasm, optimism, sensitivity, and respect to the relationship.
• Strive to be open to new ideas and feedback.
• Recognize that when setting “goals,” those may include those of the mentor, the mentee, and the hospital.
• Maintain the highest standards of professional conduct
• Periodically assess and celebrate progress.
• Periodically evaluate current development to see how to proceed forward, changes to be implemented, and areas for improvement.
