National Pork Producers Council, DC

Description of Elective Experience:

The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) has a veterinary government relations externship opportunity. The externships are two weeks in length and take place in Washington, D.C. (unless noted otherwise). The goal of the program is to expose students to the pivotal role of veterinarians in public policy, advocacy, legislation and regulation at the national level.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:

As an extern, you will interact with a number of organizations that advocate on behalf of animal agriculture and veterinary medicine during their externship.

Externs can also select to participate in NPPC’s Legislative Action Conference (LAC) during which they will be able to listen to a variety of speakers, interact with producers and veterinarians and conduct visits to their Congressional delegation.

Student Housing (include costs, amenities, pet friendly, contact info if different from elective contact info):

Through a sponsorship from Merck Animal Health, a stipend of $2000 is available to cover travel and lodging expenses, for each student selected as an NPPC veterinary government relations extern.
