Description of Elective Experience: 

Private small animal practice started May 2013 by Dr. Houser, an OSU CVM 2006 graduate. We focus on preventive care, including AVMA guidelines for canine vaccination, AAFP guidelines for feline vaccines, AHS guidelines for heartworm testing and prevention.  Routine surgeries are performed, including spay/neuter and declawing.  We also have  a strong focus on dentistry and do many dental prophylaxis.  We have dental radiographs as well as a high-speed drill..  The practice is equipped with in-house Idexx blood profile/CBC/snapshot, digital radiographs, and ultrasound.  I have a special interest (but not board specialty) in internal medicine and dermatology.  My associate has a special interest in dentistry, surgery, and also performs acupuncture

We have all Idexx online resource tools including CE, JAVMA, AVMA, OVMA, and books for all sub-specialties.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

 Interact with clients through telephone conversation and in exam rooms, take histories on appointment and surgery patients,  perform dental prophylaxis, perform radiographs,  assist in surgery, assist in ultrasound, give injections, place IV catheters, participate in cleaning and disinfection of hospital
