Description of Elective Experience: 

This elective experience is mainly to teach the students the in and outs of veterinary Med in a small animal general practice setting. Niles Veterinary Clinic is a modern, AAHA accredited, three veterinarian practice that provides high quality full-service care for dogs, cats and pocket pets.  We are dedicated to providing exceptional patient care and client service. We believe that education of our doctors, staff, and clients is the key to creating individualized veterinary healthcare for our patients. Our goal is to touch on all of the following with the extern: General pet care, radiographs and reading them, ultrasound and reading them, diagnostics and treatment options, chemotherapy approaches, acupuncture and laser therapy, all aspects of surgery including anesthesia protocols, and anything else that might fit in during the time they are with us. 

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

We have very experienced staff with all different backgrounds, which will help your extern with any questions they might have. We also have many different treatment options and diagnostic options to help with this learning experience. We have an ultrasound machine, digital xray, endoscopy, laser therapy machine, as well as numerous in house bloodwork machines.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

While the Student is shadowing, our expectations are for them to be open and willing to try things! make the best of the time they have here! Please ask questions and please share your knowledge as well. We recommend a more hands on approach during this time, as we feel individuals can learn and gain techniques by being IN the experience.
