Description of Elective Experience:
This is an opportunity for the extern to learn about private veterinary practice. Our mix is 92% companion and 8% farm practice. We would allow the extern to participate in office and farm appointments, treatments, and surgery. We are only 45 minutes from Columbus, so it would not necessitate moving for the summer.
Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:
The hospital has an in-house diagnostic lab, cardiac monitor, and digital x-ray. There are 2 veterinary technicians along with the veterinarians.
Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:
The hours are flexible, but would like the extern to be present at least around 35 hours per week. I would like the student to initially observe, but eventually to start office exams, perform lab tests and help with treatments and surgery.
