Northside Animal Clinic, TX

Description of Elective Experience:

The primary purpose of our Veterinary Student Externship is to provide a hands-on learning experience for 3rd and 4th year students who are enrolled in Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program. The program is scheduled for 2-week blocks at our hospital. We feel that the students who possess an open mind and a willingness to learn will benefit the most from our externship.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:

Northside Animal Clinic has been serving the Cleburne community since 1979. We are a 4-doctor practice that strives to provide high quality medicine with a focus on diagnostics. Our experienced team of veterinary professionals pride themselves on fast & friendly service. Mentoring comes naturally to the entire team & we are enthusiastic about elevating the profession. Our practice offers all of the modern equipment that any doctor would hope for, including digital x-ray, ultrasound, surgical laser, therapeutic laser, cloud-based practice management software, and so much more! We work primarily with small animals but also have a robust show animal clientele during season (mostly pigs but some other mixed animals too!).

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:

The Veterinary Student Extern is responsible for performing inpatient and outpatient medical care under the direct supervision of our veterinary staff. They will be expected to perform in-house diagnostic tests (hematology, chemistry, and radiology) with competence, perform routine client education, and to assist in surgical procedures.

Student Housing (include costs, amenities, pet friendly, contact info if different from elective contact info):

Housing is available and free for all externs with our lead DVM and Practice Manager (Dr. Criag Jones and Stephanie Jones). They love hosting students at the hospital and their house.
