Working alongside Veterinarians doing physical exams, preventative health measures and minor illness work ups, as well as minor soft tissue surgeries (spay/neuter/mass removals) and dental procedures. We also perform alternative medicine approaches with cold laser therapy, acupuncture, herbal medicine, and cranio-sacral therapy. The student will get to shadow the doctor and also help with restraint and general assisting duties.
We are a small, family-owned practice who has four licensed veterinarians (Two owners, two associates). Three of them are also USDA accredited for international travel. One of them also practices holistic medicine and can perform acupuncture, cold laser therapy, herbal medicine, and cranio-sacral therapy. We have 4 assistants on staff at all times who help the doctors with their exams. We have a surgical suite for soft tissue and dental surgeries, a digital x-ray machine, and cold laser. We also have an echocardiologist and ultrasonographer who are contracted to come here and do outpatient procedures for us in the clinic for our patients.
Typically we would have students shadow for the first day or two and then be more hands-on, helping the doctors with their physical exams and medical notes, or working alongside our assistants to perform general clinic duties (ex: cleaning, administrative duties like confirming appointments, etc.) if there are no patients for the doctor to see. We would typically have them work between 30-40 hours in 4 - 7 days for a 1 week externship.
