Description of Elective Experience: 

Full service veterinary hospital. Open 7 days per week. Excellent staff to doctor ratio and support staff to assist in the best elective experience. Many opportunities to achieve hands on clinical skills and practice a full spectrum of care. Strong behavior and exotic caseload (mostly exotic companion mammals, some reptile making up approx 40% of our caseload). Ability to gain surgical experience for interested individuals. 

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

Full service hospital including in house lab (Abaxis) machines, digital radiographs including digital dental, therapeutic laser (K laser), tonopen, Alivecor ECG, fluids pumps, Gaymar/Bair hugger warming devices, Oxygen cages on site, Ellman radiosurgical unit. Ultrasound service available. Excellent staff: doctor ratio allowing direct mentoring and supervision. Low stress handling/fear free approach embraced for all cases. 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

Student expected to be on site 40+ hours per week depending on case load in hospital. Combination of weekdays/weekends encouraged in order to see a greater variety of cases. Students expected to actively engage in cases vs shadowing. Business casual attire or clean scrubs acceptable. Lab coat and stethosope encouraged.
