Description of Elective Experience:
Gain experience in small animal practice, specifically examinations, choice in and interpretation of diagnostic tests, creating and implementing treatment plans, supervised routine surgeries
Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:
We have a 2:1 staff to doctor ratio.
Radiography, in-house blood and urine testing machines, as well as our other routine exam and diagnostic tools. We will be purchasing an ultrasound machine within the next month.
Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:
Then extern should anticipate being here M-F (but begin on a Tu when Dr. Berner is here preferably) 9am-5pm.
The extern will shadow for 1-2 days to see how our hospital runs, then we will work to have Nick see some appointments under supervision.
