Ocean View Veterinary Hospital, NJ

Description of Elective Experience:

The student will be exposed to a general and emergency practice experience. We expect the student to jump in and assist everything from taking a complete history to assisting in surgery. During the Summer season it is not uncommon to have 20-30 emergency cases in a 24 hour period in addition to wellness and medical cases.  The overnight shift is just as busy as the day shift and the student will alternate between shifts while they are here.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:
  • Ocean View Veterinary Hospital is the only full-service animal hospital in the Cape May Area of New Jersey offering 24-hour emergency veterinary services and extended care hours during the evening and at weekends. Whether your pet is seen on a regular basis by one of the veterinarians, you are visiting the region, or your regular veterinarian is unavailable to assist, we are here to help. The veterinary hospital is open seven days a week. We offer pet owners the flexibility of extended care hours providing a full range of preventative measures and wellness services for the pet, including vaccinations and lab work. These services are available during regular hours, in the evening during the week, and through the weekend. Ocean View Veterinary Hospital’s general practice offers a full range of veterinary preventative and wellness care for your pet including vaccinations, heartworm testing, prevention and treatment, wellness lab work, spay/neuter, dental care, and more. We also offer a full service in-house lab for rapid test results, digital x-ray both stationary and portable, ultrasound, soft tissue, orthopedic, and dental surgery, and soon-to-be Bluetooth System monitored intensive care and recovery wards. There are eight total doctors staffed by the practice and over 15 technicians as well as additional hospital assistants. A board certified cardiologist visits every two weeks to see patients that have specific cardiovascular concerns and would benefit from a consult from a specialist. Ocean View Veterinary Hospital's location has proven to be essential during the summer months as many vacationers are unfamiliar with the area and, in an emergency, cannot manage the over an hour drive to the next closest emergency facility
