Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:

Students are expected to behave professionally and offer their own treatment plans and place themselves in a situation as if they were the primary veterinarian on the case. Shadowing would be recommended for a majority of the consultations, however acknowledgement of the student's presence in the room will be there, and we may ask questions to the student in the room in front of the owner (if the student is comfortable). 40 hour weeks, often 4 day, 10 hour shifts.

We do encourage students to assist in surgeries, and also practice their hands on skills with venipucture, ultrasonography, catheter placement, and drug calculations.

Students will be asked questions that GP/veterinarians consider for each case, and will be expected to have some differentials on common cases such as patients with 'vomiting' or 'diarrhea'.
