Assist ADDL pathologists perform necropsy examinations on a wide range of animal species, including food production animals (cattle, pigs, sheep and goats), companion animals (dogs, cats, camelids, horses), cervidae, poultry, and animals from game parks and zoo collections. In addition, skill and interest levels permitting, assist pathologists in histopathologic examination of tissues in association with necropsy of animals listed above.
Staffing - Three veterinary pathologists, two ACVP board certified, two histotechnicians and two veterinary pathology assistants
Equipment - hydraulic tables, electronic weighing scales, hoist and monorail, alkaline hydrolysis tissue digester, histology equipment (tissue processor, embedding center, microtomes, slide stainer and immunostainer), Olympus and Zeiss microscopes. Desktop computers with internet access.
Assist / shadow pathologists during necropsy examinations of various animal and avian species. Obtain experience in visualization and palpation of normal and abnormal tissues with various pathologic conditions. Assist as directed, NOT to include use of monorail and hoist system, or use of band saw, or of loading or unloading the tissue digester or with zoonotic disease suspects. Review histopathology slides for recognition of tissue type and various pathologic conditions to formulate concise descriptions, morphologic diagnoses and etiologic diagnoses. As abilities permit, draft necropsy and histopathology reports for pathologist case coordinator for their preparation of case reports sent to clients.
