This elective will expose the student to wildlife conservation medicine through an active field program that captures alligators to perform complete health assessments as well as breeding status examinations via laparoscopy.
The student will gain experience in wild animal handling, field techniques, clinical examination, sample collection and processing, and theriogenology.
The One Welfare and Sustainability Center at The Ohio State University will provide all equipment, transport, accommodation, training, and expertise to ensure a vivd learning environment and safe experience.
The student will be expected to help in the preparation for the field work, training to safely go in the field, assistance with data collection and sample analysis. They will play a hands-on support role.
The time commitment will be 8-5 Monday to Friday with some potential weekend and evening work.
