Description of Elective Experience: 

Under veterinary supervision, Veterinary Technician students will provide medical care to aid in the initial stabilization of injuries and provide short- to long-term care for injured turtles admitted to OTCC, with the goal of rehabilitating each turtle and releasing them back into the wild. This includes injections, bandaging, health / trauma assessments, drug calculations, nursing/monitoring sick patients, post mortems, microchipping releasable turtles. The applicant may also work directly with the public through turtle admissions and phone calls, as well as perform other tasks as assigned including helping to move into our new medical facility.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

The student will be schedule full-time each week with the possibility of weekend work and holiday work if she is willing. Days will be 8hrs long and will always be alongside a staff veterinary technician who is available to mentor. Some time will be spent with the veterinarian helping in surgery and with other tasks.
