We are a full-service small animal primary care hospital with a wide range of diagnostics and a high volume of caseload. The practice owner also has a large herd of miniature horses on site (over 100 head), and the student may participate in diagnostics, treatments, and foaling on those horses if the opportunity arises.

On a day to day basis, students will be shadowing the doctor during appointments and may take the lead in physical examinations, diagnostics, treatment plans, and owner communications at the discretion of the doctor. We have a large volume of surgical cases, and students may act as primary surgeon or assistant surgeon under supervision of the doctor. The student will observe and assist in dental prophylaxis, dental radiographs, and dental extractions. Students will be encouraged to improve their technical skills through blood draws, placement of IV catheters, intubation, etc. Students are expected to work ~40 hours per week, though hours fluctuate with needs of the clinic. We are not open on weekends. We expect students to be proactive in their learning process and take the lead in case management when possible. Research assignments will be given pertaining to current cases of the hospital and case presentations expected.
