Description of Elective Experience: 

Multi-speciality practice with Surgery, Internal medicine, Oncology, Cardiology, and Emergency services. Teaching hospital with 2-3 interns completeing a rotating general interniship each year. Externs will work directly with specialists in the selected disciplines. Externs will be expected to participate in case work up, case discussions, and treatment modalities. Twice daily rounds will occur with all Dr.s on schedule.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

11 Dr. Practice. 17 RVT's staffed in multiple services. Total staff of 70 employees. In hospital library. Paperless records system. 2 surgery suites with soft tissue and othropedic surgical equipment. Laproscopy, arthroscopy, fluroscopy, telemetry, 2 ultrasound units, endoscopy, digital radiography, and in-house CT. Full intra operative and cage side monitors including invasive blood plessure. Full in-house IDEXX lab equipment.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

Student are expected to work 40-50 hrs a week with the selected specialty. Shadowing for client communication. Hands on experience for technical skills and knowledgeable case discussion expected.
