PetWOW is a small animal practice which combines traditional stationary practices with a fleet of mobile vehicles that serve the Greater Cincinnati Area. In business for nearly 50 years, PetWOW’s externship program focuses on the application of veterinary medical theory to real life situations and patients. Externs will be asked to shadow several of PetWOW’s experienced doctoral staff and assist them with their cases throughout the day. We average 15 surgeries a day and 30-50 outpatient appointments, so externs will have the opportunity to observe and assist with a plethora of cases. We have built our reputation around extraordinary care for our clients and patients, so a passion for serving people and their pets is a must!

Our externship program is very hands on. Externs will shadow at both our stationary Highland Heights, KY location, as well as on our Mobile Units making house calls. Our expectation is that a student will extern for a standard 40 hours throughout the week, to gain an understanding of what a standard week’s worth of work as a PetWOW veterinarian is like. Students can expect the following:
- Surgical shadowing experience with PetWOW's Chief Veterinary Officer, Dr. Aaron Stamper
- Monday – Friday hours
- Opportunities to assess cases with PetWOW’s doctoral team
- Experience discussing practice management
- Opportunities to perform tasks such as intubation, blood draws, assisting in surgical procedures and history gathering
- Client interaction time in exam rooms
- Full immersion in the Mobile aspect of the business, acting as a technician assisting our mobile doctors
- PetWOW will rent a top rated Airbnb apartment for our externs, located within 10 minutes of the hospital and 10 minutes within the Cincinnati downtown; all costs will be covered by PetWOW. Should an extern be from the Cincinnati area and prefer to stay at home, they are free to do so.
- PetWOW also will provide a stipend for breakfast and dinner during the extern's stay; lunch will be provided while shadowing.
- Pet friendly considerations will vary depending on the owner of the Airbnb.
- If transportation from the Airbnb should be a concern due to lack of a vehicle, PetWOW will provide transportation.
