Description of Elective Experience: 

We are a privately owned company of three veterinary practices located in northwest PA and northeast OH. Our
one to two doctor small animal practices treat dogs and cats. On occasion, we will see a small ruminant, do a health
certificate for a fair animal or treat a bird or pocket pet. The student will be involved with wellness and medicine
cases, experience and perform surgical procedures and develop all aspects of client and staff communication skills.
The student will be exposed to the best business management practices in regard to daily revenues and expenses,
time management, utilizing modern technology, and learning how to appreciate the team that you work with.

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

 Students will be responsible for assisting in all wellness and medicine cases.
 Students will perform physical examinations.
 Students will develop diagnostic plans.
 Students will be responsible for entering all consultation notes into practice management software and
educating clients on diagnosis, treatment, lifestyle, prevention and medications.
 Students will direct staff in regard to patient lab work, treatment, and follow-up care.
 Students will have a mentor to assist with all caseloads for discussion and proper diagnosis.
 Students will be allowed to perform basic soft tissue surgery, dentals and assist with all other
surgeries.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

 Students will be expected to follow clinic hours, Monday through Friday with a four-week rotation
Saturday.
 Most clinics have one late night and the remainder of the days are typically 8 am to 5 pm.
 Students will have a mentor at all times and access to other associate veterinarians in the practices.

Student Housing (include costs, amenities, pet friendly, contact info if different from elective contact info): 

 Student housing is available at one veterinary practice that is located approximately 25 minutes from the
other two clinics.
 Housing will include a bed, closet, shower, bath, and access to a kitchenette.
 Laundry, water, and electricity will be provided along with housing.
 Students may have a pet, but further discussion on the type of pet will be needed.
