Pioneer Equine Hospital, CA

Description of Elective Experience:

Externs will rotate between all of our doctors and observe (or assist when possible) with their outpatient appointments, field call appointments, surgeries, and after-hours emergencies, experiencing both general practice and referral cases. Externs will assist associate and intern veterinarians with daily clinical responsibilities involved in treating outpatient and hospitalized cases, including assisting in care of hospitalized patients. Our externship provides opportunity for veterinary students to gain a great deal of practical experience in a clinical equine private practice and observe the daily operations of an equine hospital. Externs will have ample time to assist with general anesthesia and surgical observation. Additionally, externs may choose to spend time at our reproductive center (1.5 miles from our main hospital). Services we provide include: Acupuncture, Advanced  Reproduction Services, Breeding and Pregnant Mare Management, Frozen Semen & Dedicated Stallion Center, Ambulatory Services, Chiropractic, Dentistry, Diagnostic Imaging including Computed Tomography, Digital Radiography, Digital Ultrasound, High Field MRI, and Video Endoscopy, Elective/Emergency Soft Tissue & Orthopedic Surgery, In Hospital Laboratory (IDEXX Procyte & Catalyst), Internal Medicine, Lameness Evaluation & Treatment including IRAP, PRP, Stem Cell, ProStride etc, Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy, Ophthalmology, Podiatry Center, Therapeutic Laser: Class IV.
