Description of Elective Experience: 

Elective students will be exposed to all aspects of medicine, surgery, dentistry and diagnostics except for advanced imaging (CT, MRI). Interaction with clients and staff is encouraged and required, and participation in procedures is also encouraged. 

Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.: 

Poland Veterinary Centre is a full service small animal hospital with four doctors and 15 support staff, including 6 licensed technicians. The practice has digital radiography, ultrasound, digital dental x-ray, in-house lab equipment, and a videootoscope in addition to all standard equipment needed in a small animal practice. A board certified surgeon is one of the associate veterinarians, and dentistry is a focus of the practice as well. 

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?: 

Students will be expected to dress professionally, and to interact with all doctors, staff and clients in a professsional manner. Mentorship by a veterinarian will be available on all shifts, and questions/curiosity/passion for learning is expected and will be encouraged. Students will be introduced to clients as veterinary students, and will be strongly encouraged to perform all duties that are legally permitted in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code.
