The candidate will be assigned to one of our clinicians and will shadow their schedule of medical, emergency, and surgical cases. They will be expected to work the schedule of their assigned clinician to include 4.5 working days per week typically 40-50 hours. We will rotate the assigned clinician to allow the candidate exposure to a variety of clinical experiences.
Our clinicians range in experience from 25 years to 4 years. Our clinical facility was built in 2009 to allow us to provide state of the art medical and surgical care for our patients. We have an excellent support staff of technicians, assistants and receptionists who have received training and continued education courses. We maintain a library of reference materials, both hard copy and digital, as well as a full compliment of in house diagnostic and monitoring equipment. Several specialists often visit our facility to assist with advanced imaging and ultra sound interpretation, as well.
We have developed standard operating procedures to accommodate 3, 4, and 6 week externship opportunities. The candidate will be expected to accompany each clinician for 1 week into the medical, surgical and emergency cases seen. By the end of the experience we will expect the candidate to define the clinical symptoms and systems affected, develop a differential diagnosis, suggest diagnostic tests for the differential diagnosis, and develop medical or surgical treatment options to present to the client, and finally assist with the medical and surgical therapies.
We have a private bedroom and bathroom available within our facility to accommodate visiting externs at free of charge. The facility has limited kitchen privileges as well, and the clinic is close to a multitude of dining options.
We have boarding facilities on site to care for a pet that travels with the candidate, however we discourage keeping a pet in the bed/bath area provided.
