Clinical rotation in comparative cardiology
This is a clinical rotation experience where the student will be directly involved in patient care including diagnostics and therapeutics. Learning will take place through experiential, small group discussion, one-on-one discussion with resident and faculty, as well as exposure to departmental and college seminars.
Direct supervision by faculty, house officers, and staff at all times (8-10 hours per day, 5 days per week; supervision will also happen if the student has a hospitalized patient during after-business hours and on weekends).
The Comparative Cardiovascular Medicine and Interventional Cardiology Service consists of three (3) Faculty, one (1) resident, and two (2) licensed technicians. The service is well-equipped with state of the art equipment for echocardiography, ECG, hemodynamic monitoring, and interventional procedures. The service has a stand-alone interventional cardiology suite with an average of 8-12 cases per month.
Students will be expected to provide primary patient care, communication with owners, RDVMs, staff, house officers, and faculty. The student will be expected to perform at a high level that is comparable to Purdue University students and will be evaluated by the staff, house officers, and faculty with an established rubric for clinical training.
