Quakertown Veterinary Clinic, PA

Description of Elective Experience:

The externship will be mixed between large and small animal. We allow students to ride along with a doctor 2-3 days per week if they are interested in large animal with the rest of the time spent in small animal.  We have an orthopedic surgeon, cardiologist, ophthalmologist, and behaviorist that come in weekly.  There are 8 large animal doctors and 28 small animal doctors.   We are open 24 hours so if emergency medicine is something the student is interested in, they can complete some emergency training at our facility.

Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:

Students are required to complete at least 40 hours per week with a licensed doctor.  They must complete all requirements from their school as well.  If a student needs to have the day off (i.e. sickness, NAVLE testing, family issue) they will be able to make up their time on a weekend or complete an emergency shift overnight.

Student Housing (include costs, amenities, pet friendly, contact info if different from elective contact info):

We offer a bedroom for students to stay in while completing their externship with us at no cost.  There is a mini fridge in the room, a dresser, and bunk beds (linens provided).  There is a bathroom with a shower - towels are provided.  In the kitchen there is an oven and two microwaves for use.  The room is not pet friendly- if a student decides to bring an animal with them, they will pay boarding rates and that pet would be kept in the kennel.
