Students can tailor this elective experience to their interests or choose to rotate through a variety of areas. We see large, small, and exotic animals for routine wellness, as well as emergency visits. We are staffed 24/7 for emergency intake and to monitor our ICU.
We boast a large hospital (13000 sq. ft.) with 5 fully-equipped, computerized exam rooms, 2 technician rooms, a surgical suite, and large treatment area.. Our clinic contains a 24-hour ICU, large animal haul-in, and 2 ambulatory vehicles for farm and house calls. This modern hospital is outfitted with the most up-to-date equipment available, including digital x-ray, automated anesthesia monitoring, Doppler, Cautery, Suction, ECG, in-house Idexx lab (ProCyte CBC, Catalysts, VetStat, Coags, Snap Pro’s, SediVue), color Doppler ultrasound, dentistry, dental x-ray, tonometry, video otoscope, cryosurgery, and more.
We expect students to work for at least 40 hours each week. The schedule can be chosen by the student since the hospital is staffed 24/7. We hope that they ask as many questions as possible and jump in to help with cases. Students will be expected to shadow, but can assist on cases if he/she is comfortable.
