Description of Elective Experience:
- Have an in-depth understanding of all aspects of RSG
- Animal observation and recognition of normal and abnormal behaviors
- Hands on experience with breeding and veterinary services such as LAI and ET surgery procedures
- Properly handle semen, assist with a breeding soundness exam, and ram/buck collections
- Identify common pharmaceutical products, know their uses and side effects and appropriate situational use
- Proper techniques for administering medication via Intramuscular, subcutaneous, and IV injections
- Understand the IETS embryo evaluation system
- Hands on practice of general anesthesia processes, identify common medications used in anesthesia,
- Proper placement of tracheal tubes and steps for monitoring animals under anesthesia.
- Provide customer service to a variety of customers to meet their individual needs
- Understand the fundamentals of small ruminant husbandry
Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:
Veterinarians, Vet Techs, Embryologist on staff to assist with experience.
2 full surgical lab suites. One embryology lab. One semen processing lab.
Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:
40 hours per week Monday thru Friday.
Shadowing and hands on activities.
