Description of Elective Experience:
Gaining experience in a multiple doctor AAHA accredited hospital. Observing and assisting in soft tissue (laparoscopic procedures) and orthopedic surgery, observing and assisting with ultrasounds, interpreting lab results, client communications, participating in rounds, interpreting digital radiography, assisting with endoscopic procedures
Institutional and Educational Resources - staffing, equipment, etc.:
Five doctors, 30 support staff. Complete in house laboratory, ultrasound, digital radiography, laparoscopic equipment, therapy laser, endoscopy
Student Responsibilities - what is expected of students in terms of hours, days of the week, shadowing or actual support?:
Five eight-hour days, Monday through Friday. The rotation will include shadowing and actual support. Scrubbing in on surgical procedures, assisting in diagnostics, client education, etc.
